    The botanical minute
    The orange tree is a fruit-bearing shrub grown mainly in warm Mediterranean regions. It is thought to be a cross between two other citrus fruits, the grapefruit and the mandarin. The sweet orange fruit measures 4 to 12 centimetres in diametre and ripens in autumn and winter. After apples, oranges are the second most popular fruit, probably because of their high vitamin C content, which gives us a boost in winter.
