How to get rid of dark circles?

Tips and tricks

It is often said that the eyes are the mirror of the soul. However, sometimes our pretty eyes are adorned with dark circles. Sometimes hereditary, sometimes linked to lifestyle, they can be pronounced, dark, swollen, or light.

Whatever the case, many people try to reduce their dark circles.

So, is it possible to minimise dark circles naturally?

We'll give you a few tips and explain how.

How to reduce the appearance of dark circles:

How to reduce the appearance of dark circles:

Reduce dark circles by moisturizing the eye area

Skin needs to be moisturized to maintain its elasticity and tone. This is especially true for sensitive areas of the face where the skin is thin. The eye area must therefore be gently moisturized to prevent the appearance of dark circles and early fine lines. Applying a suitable eye contour care product will serve this purpose.

For greater effectiveness, you can place it in the refrigerator before use. The cold stimulates blood microcirculation around the eye. This circulation will visibly reduce the appearance of dark circles. What's more, it's very pleasant to apply if the cold doesn't bother you.

Vegetable and essential oils, natural concealers?

Calophylla oil, an anti-dark circles treatment:

This oil is rich in calophyllic and inophylline. These two active ingredients have circulatory and healing properties. This oil is recognized for its powerful anti-dark circle properties. Acting directly on blood circulation, it reduces the bluish appearance of skin linked to poor blood circulation. This oil also helps decongest the eye area while moisturizing the skin. And if you're prone to couperose, this oil reduces redness! It's a three-in-one treatment.

We recommend diluting it in another vegetable oil to minimize its odor, which can be unpleasant for some.

Rose Hip Oil: A natural anti-wrinkle agent, this vegetable oil contains essential fatty acids, as well as vitamin A and vitamin C. The latter help regenerate the skin. These help regenerate the skin and prevent the appearance of wrinkles.

Avocado oil: Anti-oxidant and rich in vitamin E, it activates lymphatic circulation under the eyes, while protecting the sensitive, fragile skin in this area.

Green Coffee Oil: Rich in antioxidants and fatty acids, green coffee oil both protects and firms the skin. It is ideal for reducing puffiness under the eyes, and also has nourishing properties for dry, damaged hair.

Helichrysum essential oil: diluted in a vegetable oil, it has a decongestant effect on the skin around the eye. In fact, it is a natural blood thinner and anti-inflammatory. Its properties will help reduce skin swelling.

This essential oil must be diluted in a vegetable oil before application. This area of the face is very sensitive. We do not recommend this essential oil for pregnant or breast-feeding women.

If you mistakenly apply vegetable oil to the inside of the eye, simply rinse with lukewarm water.

Stimulate skin microcirculation with massage

Massage is a highly effective way of activating blood circulation around the eye area. As we saw earlier, boosting microcirculation in this area of the face makes it easier to reduce the appearance of dark circles. They will also be less dark. Congested dark circles will be less noticeable. Combined with a healthy lifestyle, massage will help prevent and delay the appearance of dark circles.

How to perform your massage

After applying your anti-dark circle treatment (eye contour cream, calophylla oil, etc.), use your ring fingers to tap your fingertips on the eye contour. Use light strokes, always moving from the inside to the outside of the eye. You can follow the shape of your orbital bone for this. Finish by smoothing the skin around the eye with your skincare product, always using very light pressure, as this is a sensitive area.

You can carry out these massages without applying any skincare product. However, we recommend that you use a skincare product to help it penetrate the skin. You'll then benefit from both the massage action and your skincare product, which will be even more effective.

The ring finger is the finger that naturally exerts the least pressure when used. Given the fragility of the skin around the eyes, we recommend gentle massage with this finger. The massage will revive the tissues, decongest them and even relax you. Finally, it stimulates collagen production. Collagen helps keep skin toned, firm and elastic.

Reduce dark circles by improving your lifestyle

As you know, fatigue and stress can quickly lead to the appearance of dark circles. We therefore recommend getting enough sleep and going to bed earlier to reduce fatigue. Practicing a relaxing activity (sport, yoga or any other activity that helps you relax and clear your head) will help you limit and reduce stress.

Excesses of all kinds should be avoided: cigarettes, alcohol, greasy foods and dishes... Adopting a healthier lifestyle will benefit not only your eye contour, but your health in general.

Finally, consider reducing the amount of time you spend in front of screens and lowering their brightness. The latter tends to tire the eyes on a daily basis and can encourage the appearance of dark circles.

Gentle make-up removal to protect the eye contour area

When we're tired, our dark circles are often more apparent and pronounced. The skin is also dull and tired. To avoid accentuating this effect, it's important to remove make-up properly before going to bed.

Make-up removal removes all impurities from your skin's pores. As a result, your skin can breathe and its suppleness is preserved.

To remove make-up from around the eyes, you can choose a product to suit your needs: micellar water, two-phase make-up remover, oil, gel or cleansing milk..

Whatever product you use, make sure it's as gentle as possible.

Make-up to reduce dark circles in the short term

Natural treatments using oils and massages are highly effective, but you'll need to be patient before you see the first effects. However, you may be impatient for your dark circles to fade and want to camouflage them until they do.

In this case, you can opt for make-up and, more specifically, concealer or corrector. These products neutralize the bluish or purplish color of dark circles and smooth the skin around the eyes. Apply light quantities to the eye contour area, dabbing on with a finger or brush, then blend and mattify with an external loose powder.

You can also remove make-up with floral waters, concentrating on dark circles.

Cornflower floral water : Gentle cornflower floral water soothes skin and tired eyes. It's a real must-have when it comes to caring for your skin.

Cucumber floral water: Cucumber floral water is extremely refreshing and moisturizing for all skin types.

Damask Rose floral water: Soothing and invigorating, there's nothing better than a little rose floral water applied with a cotton pad to dark circles and eyelids. Your skin will feel refreshed and your eyes awakened. Simply use it as part of your eye make-up removal routine. It's also highly effective in the early hours of the morning to relieve puffiness caused by nocturnal immobility.

How to prevent and delay the appearance of dark circles

Adopt a healthy lifestyle

You've probably heard this advice more than once, and with good reason. We can't stress it enough: a healthy lifestyle promotes better health. This applies both internally (better organ function, energy, well-being) and externally (more beautiful skin, stronger hair...)

Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and vary your diet. Remember to limit excesses.

Tobacco, alcohol, lack of sunlight and exposure to ultraviolet rays all have negative effects on your body, especially your skin. These factors tend to cause water retention. Water retention is in fact an accumulation of water and fat that becomes lodged under the skin. The eye area is no exception. To avoid this accumulation and the swelling of dark circles, you can also drink plenty of water. At least 1.5L a day. Finally, exercise, rest when your body needs it and take care of your skin are also recommended to avoid dark circles.

Grandmotherly remedies

Many of us have mothers or grandmothers who have managed to preserve their beauty over time. To keep their skin beautiful and toned, their hair long and their teeth beautiful, they always have simple, effective and natural tricks up their sleeves. There are a few natural tricks you can use to reduce and avoid dark circles.

Cucumbers: Who hasn't seen the image of a woman with two cucumber slices over her eyes during a beauty treatment? Whether at home or at a thalasso, you can enjoy this cocooning treatment. With your eyes closed, you can relax while the cucumber's active ingredients firm, soothe and tone the skin around your eyes.

You can use cucumber floral water or fresh cucumber. Either way, you need to apply it fresh. The easiest way is to leave your cucumber or floral water in the fridge for at least 1 hour before use.

Tea bags: Made from plants, tea is also good for the skin. For this tip, place two tea bags in the freezer. It's also possible to prepare your own tea, leave it to brew and then reserve your tea bags for use on your face.

You can use mild teas such as mint or chamomile. Leave for at least 1 hour, then apply to your eyes. The action of the cold combined with the properties of the plants contained in the tea will firm the skin around the eyes. Chamomile and mint have soothing and antioxidant properties for the skin. This will give you a "boost" effect.

Refrigerated spoons: Following the same principles as tea bags, refrigerated spoons have a refreshing effect on the skin. Leave your spoons in the freezer for 15 minutes before use. The cold will also stimulate blood circulation in the skin. Above all, the cold will have a decongestant effect, helping to reduce the swollen appearance of dark circles.

To avoid thermal shock and the opposite of the desired effect, we recommend placing a thin, light cloth between the cold spoon and the skin of your eye. Ice cubes can be used instead of spoons or tea bags.

Problematic and unsightly for some, a detail for others, the elimination of dark circles is a topic often subject to questioning. Here, we hope to have given you some answers about dark circles and how to reduce them.
