Who is Brigitte, our master soap maker? WAAM being particularly attached to the "empowerment" of women, we were delighted and proud to create this range of soaps with a "master soap maker" who shares our ethical and eco-responsible values: Brigitte M. An outstanding entrepreneur and craftsman, holder of the “master soap maker” diploma, Brigitte has been working alongside us for several months on the design and artisanal and local production of our range of solid soaps. Strongly committed to the natural and quality of the ingredients she uses, Brigitte agreed to share with us her expertise as an artisan soap maker as well as her precious know-how and to embark with us on this adventure ranging from the development of the recipe to the manufacture of our soaps. A handcrafted product, that is to say? Our soaps are made exclusively in France. Each step of the manufacturing process is carried out by hand with the utmost care, which is why we call them artisanal. All our soaps are made in small batches. The dough is prepared in 2kg loaves each, making around twenty soaps. These small quantities ensure impeccable dosage and final quality. A human-scale, professionally produced product! How are our soaps made? 1. Preparation of the preparation: All ingredients are carefully weighed and mixed according to the pre-defined formula. The superfatting oil blend and essential oils are only added to the dough at the end of preparation. 2. Casting: The molds are first prepared and lined (the bottom and sides are covered to facilitate unmolding) before gently pouring the dough inside. Everything is then covered and left to rest for 48 hours. 3. Cutting: After 48 hours, the soap is ready to be unmolded and weighed. It is then cut using a tool called a "musical cutter" or "guitar." Drying: The cut soaps must then undergo a 6-week drying cure. 4. Stamping: Always done manually, the stamping can be done after 10 days of drying. 5. Packaging: Six weeks later, we can finally move on to the final step before offering our soaps to you: packaging. To achieve this, we've opted to minimize waste by offering our soaps in reusable fabric pouches or recyclable paper. What is cold saponification? Saponification is a chemical reaction that takes place between two elements, a fatty substance (the oils and butters that make up soap) and an alkali (soda lye). During this process the oil and lye will disappear to form soap and glycerin . The chemical reaction only stops when one of the two components is exhausted. A superfatted soap is a soap produced by saponification during which the soda is exhausted first. Cold saponification is a slow, artisanal method that preserves all the properties of the ingredients since there is no cooking involved. Only the butters are gently melted in a bain-marie. What is superfatting? Now that you know what saponification is, you will easily understand what superfatting is. This is the proportion of oil that is not saponified and therefore remains in the oil state in the soap. It is this superfatting that will provide softness and nutrition to the skin. This means there will be no feeling of tightness or dry skin after use. Why choose cold saponification rather than conventional soap? - Cold saponification is the traditional soap making method that is the most respectful of the ingredients used, their properties are very well preserved due to the absence of excessive heat. - Cold saponified artisanal soap is a real treatment , it is not at all drying thanks to the production of glycerin which takes place during the process. - Cold saponified soap is very often a superfatted soap . Some of the vegetable oils introduced into the preparation are not saponified, which helps nourish the skin. - Cold saponification is very environmentally friendly since it uses very little energy. - Cold-process solid soap is also much more environmentally friendly and economical than conventional shower gels. It doesn't come in plastic packaging, and an 80g bar can last about a month. The choice of raw materials, a crucial choice. We place great importance on the quality of our products, so the same goes for the quality of our soaps. To achieve this, we wanted them to be made directly with the raw materials we offer in our online store. Our soaps are composed exclusively of 100% natural ingredients, without artificial colors or perfumes. How to properly store your soap? To properly preserve your soap, it is essential to let it dry thoroughly between uses. Your soap will melt much faster when it comes into contact with water. We recommend using a soap dish, but be careful to ensure that it allows water to drain away and does not come into contact with the soap. If you don't want to use your soap immediately, you can store it, but always keep it away from heat and humidity. However, if stored for too long, the soap can lose its fragrance.
