Summertime

Summer is in full swing, and with it the desire to feel good about your body and balance your diet. Enjoy the warmth, the sun (protected and in moderation), and adopt a few good habits to recharge your batteries.

Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables

In summer, we enjoy fresh, colorful produce without feeling guilty. Melons, watermelons, strawberries, and more are rich in water and low in sugar, except for cherries. Strawberries are one of the least sweet fruits, rich in vitamin C, just like raspberries and blueberries.

We prefer to eat fruit with meals, in the morning and at lunch, to avoid insulin spikes and sugar cravings in the middle of the day. And we avoid eating sweets at the end of the day.
Summer vegetables are also rich in water and therefore very hydrating. Tomatoes, cucumbers, and asparagus have the advantage of being low in calories, with some, like asparagus, having a draining effect.

Do you like easy recipes made with raw vegetables?
The tomato-mozzarella duo is perfect for dinner and ultimately low in fat, as long as you don't overdo the olive oil and balsamic vinegar (high in sugar). And it's a dish that's easier to digest than meat accompanied by vegetables.

If you're addicted to mixed salads, choose a quinoa base, which is rich in protein and fiber, with few carbohydrates. And for those who can't live without pasta or rice salads, choose semi-wholegrain or wholegrain options. White rice and white pasta don't fill you up enough, and you quickly get hungry after a meal.

Hydrate yourself

Drinking water is essential, but what are some other healthy alternatives when you want to avoid sodas and processed drinks?

Infused waters, highly Instagrammable with their suspended lemon slices and mint leaves, have been all the rage for several years. How do they work? Let cucumber, strawberries, and aromatic herbs infuse in the water for at least half a day, without adding sugar, to obtain a refreshing drink with a subtle flavor. Nutritionally, the benefits aren't huge; you can find some vitamins in the water, but no fiber.

Whatever the beverage, drink it at room temperature. If it's too cold, it can cause stomach pain or diarrhea. And the body doesn't have time to absorb cold water. It quickly passes through the colon, and the organs don't have time to absorb the water to hydrate themselves.

During a heatwave

We drink at least 2 liters of water per day, adding a pinch of salt, to compensate for mineral losses linked to perspiration.

Avoid outdoor physical activities and intense cardio. Instead, opt for gentle sports like walking, hatha yoga, and water activities.

A liquid diet, with cold soups and raw fruits and vegetables rich in water, is well-suited to periods of intense heat. However, eating raw foods at every meal can make you feel bloated. Add a dose of starchy foods to restore balance.

Lighten your legs

When you suffer from poor venous return, extreme heat can be a challenge.

Besides wearing support stockings and socks, simply adopting new habits can help you feel better quickly.

The basic principle remains good daily hydration (1.5 liters of water), to promote proper kidney function and eliminate toxins.

We take advantage of summer to overindulge in red fruits, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, and raspberries, which strengthen venous return and reduce capillary fragility. We can also drink pomegranate juice, recommended for its antioxidant and anti-storage properties, since it facilitates the elimination of aqueous cellulite.

Moving every day is also essential to boost sluggish venous return. Walk at least three-quarters of an hour a day, take the stairs instead of the elevator, swim, and cycle to show off slimmer legs.

Beware of sports that put sudden pressure on the veins, such as running, tennis, squash, or aerobics. Avoid them.

Online lymphatic drainage

This method helps boost your lymphatic system and thus better eliminate toxins, with 10 minutes of daily practice at the start of the day.

Intended for everyone, this self-massage allows you to feel in shape, relieve heavy legs and reduce swelling in the abdominal area.

We then combine abdominal breathing, stretching, posture work... A series of simple exercises that can be done anywhere.
