Mahakanni (Eclipta prostrata), from which Bhringraj powder is derived, is a plant with broad, flat leaves and white flowers in the Asteraceae family. It is unique in that some of its components have colouring properties. In contact with the skin, it gives a golden-brown tan. For this reason, this plant is used in some self-tanning lotions.
